At Thunder Acres, we prioritize environmental conservation and therefore choose to offer coconut coir to our customers rather than peat moss. We believe that the harvesting of peat moss is detrimental to wetlands, which are the most threatened ecosystem on earth. Coconut coir is an excellent alternative to peat moss as a soil amendment.

Coconut coir comes in compressed 1.5 lbs. bricks, making storage easy and convenient. When fully hydrated, a brick can hold eight to ten times its volume in water and has a neutral pH of 5.8–6.8. It can help improve air space and drainage in soil and break up hard clay soils for more efficient nutrient use. Thunder Acres' Coconut Coir is a 100% natural by-product of coconut harvest, consisting of coarse fibers extracted from the husk of the coconut shell. It has superior water holding capacity, making it a sustainable alternative to peat moss.

Coconut coir can be used as a soil amendment for potted plants, containers, and gardens, and is easily hydrated by soaking the brick in water for at least 20 minutes before use. It lasts longer in soil than peat moss and, when combined with compost, creates an excellent growing medium for gardens, planters, and raised beds.
